Bio
So...a little about me! I was born in Houston, Texas, but I only lived there for 2 years. Then we moved to Hendersonville, TN ~ a suburb of Nashville. My sister [info]princessrex was born on my fifth birthday. When I was in third grade, we moved to Asheville, NC and lived there until I graduated from high school. My family moved back to Nashville, living in Hermitage this time, and I went to school at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. After college, I worked at Opryland Hotel both as a cashier on the General Jackson Showboat and in Room Reservations.

During that time, I left the United Methodist Church and was confirmed into the Episcopal Church. I did volunteer stuff in the church until I realized that my calling at the time was to Christian Education. I went to seminary at Virginia Theological Seminary and received a Masters in Theological Studies. I went to work at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Raleigh where I worked for two years. While there, I discovered a passion for youth ministry, and since at the time the church didn't have enough money to pay for a full-time DCE and Youth Minister, I looked around and found a position at Christ Church in Waukegan, IL. That position lasted two and a half years, until their budget couldn't afford even a part-time staff member doing Christian Ed or Youth. So I moved to Manassas, VA to work as the Youth Minister at Grace UMC. In less than a year, it became apparent that we were not matched theologically, so we decided to part ways. I worked two jobs for nine months ~ KinderCare and Starbucks. I applied for and was accepted into the New York City Teaching Fellows, and moved to NYC in June 2006. Love it there and don't ever want to move!

While all this has been going on, I've been coming to terms with my lesbian sexuality. It's been a journey that's taken many twists and turns, but I'm so thankful to have a wonderfully supportive family and group of friends who are standing by and with me. I've also found my way back to the Church (I took a break after leaving GUMC) and became a member of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church in Washington, DC. Now that I'm in NYC, I'm a member of Holy Apostles. And I love it.

I've become involved with The Human Rights Campaign among other organizations.

I love theatre, reading, writing, movies, music, theatre, Disney stuff, going into the city to play, and all kinds of things like that! :) Oh, and of course my quaker parrot, Benjamin Coffin the Bird, more commonly known as Benny. :)

I'm going into my third year in the New York City Teaching Fellows program teaching Special Education. It's a lot of fun, but hard work. And definitely never boring!

Welcome to my world!!
