Tis the season for a wish list...

It is December. Snow is forecast. Which means that now it's time for the LJ Christmas Gift Meme! (Snagged from just about everywhere.)

Step One

- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

My Holiday Wishes:

1. Christmas cards. Cards are ALWAYS fun! :)

2. Create an LJ icon for me. I'd especially love icons of Alice Ripley, Emily Skinner, Julianne Moore, next to normal, and...oh heck, I'll fess up...Sex and the City.

3. Mix CDs (or downloads) of some of your favorite music - or stuff you think I'd like. Im pretty flexible...though not really a fan of heavy metal, 80s hair bands, or rap.

4. Send me a photograph of something that makes you happy. (I like Cal's idea here. Email is cool.)

5. Donate to HRC or MENY (or your local state marriage equality chapter) to assist with the fight for equality for ALL.

6. Donate to BCEFA.

7. Barnes and Noble gift cards! (Since I'm getting a nook, I'm needing to populate it with new and my favorite books in electronic form!)

8. Gift cards for the Angelika Film Center or an AMC Entertainment card.

9. Cast Recordings - download is fine. If you know I love the show, I probably have it. Surprise me...introduce me to something new!

10. Random theatre memorabilia you have extra of or don't want anymore.

If you need to get in touch with me, leave a comment for my email. :)

Pass it along!

AFSP Overnight 2008

Yes, I signed up for The Overnight again. Im excited! I figure with a year to work on training, it should be a lot easier this time. AND I got signed up as a student, so I only have to raise $700, which is a little better. :)

My Overnight Donation Page

Because some people haven't really understood what AFSP is and does, here's some basic information.

AFSP is the only national not-for-profit organization funding research and education programs needed to prevent suicide, and assisting family members after this tragedy. The foundation's activities include:

* Supporting research that is improving our understanding of suicide and its prevention. Since 2000, AFSP has invested 6.6 million dollars in new studies, including research into treatments for people who are depressed and suicidal.
* Providing education and information about depression and suicide to professionals, the media and the public through workshops, trainings, the AFSP website, videos, publications, brochures and public service announcements. AFSP's PSA. "Suicide Shouldn't be a Secret" has reached 88 million television viewers.
* Publicizing the magnitude of the problems of depression and suicide, advocating for polices and legislation that can help prevent suicide and working to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental illness and suicide.
* Offering programs for survivors of suicide loss that can be of assistance and involving survivors in suicide prevention. AFSP survivor initiatives include the National Survivors of Suicide Day Program, which was broadcast to 112 communities last year and was simulcast on the AFSP website, the Survivor e-Network and trainings for survivor support group facilitators.

So you see? It's NOT about pulling a gun out of someone's hands or pulling them off a bridge. It's about getting resources that will help people before they get to that point ~ and help their friends and families left behind if they do. It's about removing the stigma.

For various reasons I'm not sure I'm allowed to talk about yet, this year the walk means even more to me, and I would greatly appreciate your support. Even $5 helps, and you can donate whatever you want ~ it's not like Kintera where you have pre-set amounts.

If you're not in the US, one thing we found that worked last year was to send money to my paypal account and I wrote a check to AFSP. If you want to do that, let me know and I'll give you my paypal address.

Thank you.

This seems interesting.

[info]timcub is doing it, and it seems cool.

Tell me a secret.

Be warned: everyone on my friends list will be able to see it, so post anonymously unless it's something you want the world to know. IP addresses will not show up in the comments.

I probably won't reply to them just cause...it seems to defeat the purpose.

Go on. What's your secret?

Ok... I didn't realize there was a stupid rule about you can't do anonymous replies on a f-locked post. It's now un-friends-locked.

February 12 of 12

Yep. It's the 12th! :) That means it's time for Chad Darnell's 12 of 12.

12 pics of my day on the 12th of the month... Blah, blah. :)

I'm gonna be in for the night, so I figured I could sum up the day as it was already. :) This kind of ended up being the 12 of 12 of food...I don't think I've included all three meals before. LOL. At any rate... Enjoy!

February pictures this way )

So that's it. My boring day! :)

12 of 12 2.0 December Edition

So here it is... The end of the second year of 12 of 12. You know the drill. It's the brainchild of Chad Darnell.

I had an eye doctor's appointment (and a paper to finish), so I took the day off. Eye doctor's went well. I'm back on contact lenses for my primary use. :) Yay!! Inadvertantly, I ended up with a lot of signs this time. Weird!!

Anyway... Enjoy!

12 of 12 v. 2.0 November Edition!

Yea. it's the 12th. Which means it's time for 12 of 12, the brainchild of Chad Darnell. Go to his blog to check out other 12 of 12ers from around the world! :)

I had the day off, which means no boring school pics. However I didn't venture into my usual theatre district because I was afraid of irate tourists who didn't get to see shows over the weekend (and stupid stagehands who somehow still think they can get their people on film and television productions...apparently they missed the WGA strike and its effects... May I just say I have more sympathy for the writers who should get paid for what they do than for the stagehands who oftentimes have more people standing around doing nothing at least during loads than I've EVER seen on road construction crews...and I thought they had a lot of people standing around doing nothing. There...that's out of my system. Not trying to start a fight, so no comments defending or whatever...you will be deleted.) Still...I hope you like it.

Randomness because I'm bored.

I was looking over my friends management page on here and noticed a couple of people who've friended me who I have no idea who you are.

So... If you're seeing this and haven't seen any other posts from me in a couple of weeks, try commenting and telling me who you are and why you friended me. :) That way you might be able to read more entries. I don't friend back unless I have some clue who you are.

12 of 12 2.0 October edition!

Once again... You all know the drill. it's all Chad's fault idea. :)

And without further ado...

websites and food and creatures oh my! )

So that was it! :) I didn't wait in the lobby at 37 Arts because it's down at 10th avenue and 37th isn't a real busy street, so i decided to be safe and leave with the crowd. :( It would have added some cool pics though.

12 of 12 v. 2.0 September edition!

Yes, I'm aware it's only just after 6pm, but frankly I'm tired and not planning to go anywhere, so the evening would be pics of me watching Grey's Anatomy all night. BORING! So... You get what you get! :)

As always, the brains behind all this is Chad Darnell. Visit his page over the next few days to see other people's days. :)

And we're off... )

So that's it. My wonderful day. Bored yet? :P

12 of 12 v. 2.0 August - The "Are We There YET???" edition

So I apologize in advance. This will be the most boring 12 of 12 ever. (And no Benny stealing food. *pout*) I've been on the road all day going from Winston-Salem, NC where my grandfather's funeral was to Nashville, TN where my parents live...and where I'd planned to be all day. So...

You know the drill. For details of 12 of 12, see Chad's blog.

Enjoy!

Women Appreciation Challenge Day 2

Again, from [info]sansets, Women Appreciation Challenge Day 2.

Day 2: Rec women centric art/artistic creations.
It can be fanfiction, books, movies, music, complete TV series, single episodes, paintings, quilts, cakes ... anything you want! The only catch is that women have to be prominently featured. (And I leave it entirely up to your discretion as to what constitutes women centricity. Personally, I wouldn't say that Supernatural is really women centric, but if you want to rec the entire series for its women centricity, feel free to do so and prove me wrong! Or if you have a favorite cake that you think represents your experience as a woman, go for it! I LOVE being proved wrong when I get new angles to view art through.) So go forth and rec one, rec five, rec five hundred! Just don't forget to come back here (lj user="sansets">'s journal), click your box, and post a link to your recs in the comments!

Evening ~ book by Susan Minot and movie.
The Year of Magical Thinking ~ book by Joan Didion and play on Broadway
art by Georgia O'Keefe
art by Mary Cassat
any CD by Audra McDonald
The Hours ~ even though the book is by a man, it's totally women-centric, also the movie

I know there are others...but I've procrastinated on my paper enough for now.

Women Appreciation Challenge

Thieved from [info]dragonessasmith and ultimately from [info]sansets. I missed day 1, so I'm doing them both. but in separate posts.

Day 1: Make a list in your journal of the awesome women that you can think of.
And I mean any women! They can be fictional, real, or somewhere in between. Ones you think are smart, ones you think are hot, ones you think are competent, ones that rock your socks for some other reason. Young, old, dead, living, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away ... (yeah, I think you get the point) The structure of the list is up to you! There can be as many or as few women as you want on it. A list of just names will suffice, or if you want to go all the way and make an alphabetized list with links, pictures, and a full explanation about why you think this woman is awesome, then you can do that too! Your challenge, your response.

I opted to pick 10, like [info]dragonessasmith did because as she said, it's a nice, round number. My list in no particular order:
Julianne Moore
Vanessa Redgrave
Joan Didion
Audra McDonald
Princess Diana
Mother Teresa
Nancy Ferree-Clark
Hillary Clinton
Elizabeth Edwards
Sandra Day O'Connor
